About the Authors
The theoretical background of the
Octagon Learning
System came from many directions. The index evolved from the
experience of 25 years of student development administration,
counseling, and teaching. The authors have been administrators
of college enrollment programs, academic coordinators, school
retention administrators, as well as college counselor
trainers.
Dr. Edmond Hallberg, Ed.D., has an
extensive background in student development, focusing on
issues of retention, assessment, and management. He received his degree from Stanford University
and is Professor Emeritus of Education and Higher Education
Counseling Coordinator at California State University, Los
Angeles. He has also served as a college
counselor, Coordinator of Academic Advising, Director of
Admissions, and Dean of Students.
Kaylene Hallberg, M.A., is the former Dean
of Student Development for the California Community College
system. She has also served as the Dean of Counseling at
Cypress College.
Loren Sauer, Ph.D. is a professor of
Counselor Education at North Dakota State University in Fargo,
North Dakota, where he is coordinator of the Clinical
Counseling Specialization and directs their Community
Counseling Services.
